Residents and visitors can explore the Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum and the 60-acre Doon Heritage Village for free on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The free event is part of the 24th annual Doors Open Waterloo Region.
Doors Open Waterloo Region is an annual celebration that opens the doors of heritage sites, cultural spaces, and interesting buildings across the community. This year, 27 locations across the region are participating, including churches, museums, research facilities, and historic buildings, all with free admission for the day.
The Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum, located at 10 Huron Road in Kitchener, is Ontario’s largest community museum. It features two indoor galleries exploring 12,000 years of regional history, plus the 60-acre Doon Heritage Village. The living history site depicts rural life in Waterloo Region in 1914 and recently reopened on July 1, 2026, after accessibility upgrades that included new pathways, ramps, assistive listening devices, and sensory support kits.
Normally, admission to the museum costs $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, $8 for children ages 5 to 12, and $30 for families up to four people. During Doors Open, all visitors enter for free. Parking is also free, and the site is accessible by Grand River Transit with connections to the ION light rail.
