On March 11, 2026, a woman was seriously injured after being hit by a car at the intersection of Sunnidale Road and Wellington Street West in Barrie, Ontario. The driver of the car stayed at the scene and was later arrested after police noticed signs that he was impaired.
Paramedics from Simcoe County Paramedics arrived on the scene and took the woman to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries, which were described as serious but not life-threatening. According to the Barrie Police Service, the intersection was shut down for nearly four hours while investigators conducted a scene reconstruction.
The 56-year-old driver is now facing multiple charges, including operation causing bodily harm and possession of methamphetamine. Officers who spoke with the man after the crash reported that he exhibited slow, deliberate movements, slurred speech, and constricted pupils, which are signs of drug impairment.
The man also faces charges for driving without insurance and for failing to surrender his driver’s licence and vehicle permit. The intersection was cleared and reopened to all traffic by about 12:45 a.m. the following morning once the police finished their investigation at the scene.
