The Hay River RCMP investigated 212 incidents in February 2026, which is a decrease in police activity compared to the previous year. This update was shared during a meeting in Hay River, Northwest Territories, on March 9 to provide residents with information on local safety.
The total number of calls for service was down by 44 from February 2025, when officers responded to 256 files. Police suggest that the lower numbers may be due to local weather conditions and a successful operation against a drug trafficking ring in January.
The January investigation resulted in the seizure of weapons, cash, and illegal drugs. During February, officers also focused on community safety by performing 27 curfew checks on known offenders, which led to new charges being laid.
These monthly reports are reviewed by the Town of Hay River Council to track crime trends. The detachment also provides policing services for the K’atl’odeeche First Nation and the community of Enterprise.
