A community walk and gathering to help end violence against Indigenous women and children will take place on May 14, 2026, in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. The Moose Hide Campaign event brings residents together at the West River’s Edge Pavilion to show support for safety and reconciliation.
The afternoon includes a one-kilometre solidarity walk, circle discussions, and a traditional meal of stew and bannock. Organizers from the Moose Hide Campaign in the Heartland designed the event to encourage men and boys to take a leading role in stopping gender-based violence.
The initiative is part of a national Indigenous-led movement that focuses on protecting women, children, and people along the gender continuum. Participants are often given small squares of moose hide to wear as a symbol of their promise to stand up against violence.
Indigenous Elders and community leaders will lead the activities from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. While tickets for the event are free, the organizers accept optional donations to support the ongoing work of the campaign.
