The City of Steinbach, Manitoba, has announced it will not host the annual community garage sale in 2026, with a new local venue stepping in to run the event. The Southeast Event Centre will take over the hosting duties for the popular sale, which was previously organized by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department.
For many years, the sale was held at the T.G. Smith Arena, where residents could rent a spot for $20 to sell their household items. While the city still owns the new 112,000-square-foot event facility, it is now operated by a local non-profit group called the Southeast Events Group. The centre, which opened in March 2025, features a large gymnasium and hall that can fit many vendors at once.
The location for the garage sale remains the same at 321 Elmdale Street, as the new centre was built on the site of the former Centennial Arena within the same complex. Residents who used to book their tables through the city will now need to contact the staff at the event centre directly to find out how to sign up for a spot in 2026. In the past, the sale has typically run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on a Saturday in the spring.
Other major community traditions in Steinbach will not change this year. The city will continue its partnership with the Mennonite Heritage Village to host the annual Canada Day celebrations on July 1, 2026. These holiday activities remain separate from the changes at the event centre.
