The Town of Watson Lake Council will meet on March 24, 2026, to decide on new rules for local businesses and discuss ongoing housing projects. The meeting starts at 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers located at 710 Adela Trail in Watson Lake, Yukon.
Mayor Lauren Hanchar and the town council are set to give the final go-ahead to a new business licence law. They will also discuss a second reading of a law regarding how local rules are enforced and look at a new policy for community donations.
The Town of Watson Lake is currently managing more than $1.2 million in federal funding meant to help create more places for people to live. This effort includes the recent approval of $560,000 in grants to support the building of 14 new housing units in the community.
Other items for the council include updated rules for animal control and fire safety, as well as a plan to ensure buildings left empty for more than two months are kept secure. The town sits within the traditional territory of the Liard First Nation and serves a population of about 1,466 residents.
