The Camrose Police Service is working with other police departments across Alberta this March 2026 to encourage everyone to wear their seatbelts. This safety push comes as the province increases the cost of tickets for drivers and passengers who are not buckled in safely.
On March 13, 2026, the fine for not following seatbelt and car seat rules increased from $162 to $211. This 30 per cent jump is intended to remind the 20,000 residents of Camrose that staying safe is the top priority while on the road.
Drivers are reminded that they are legally responsible for making sure every passenger under the age of 16 is using a seatbelt or a proper child safety seat. Police say that using these tools is the best way to stay safe and avoid serious injury if a crash happens.
In 2025, the Alberta RCMP handed out 2,338 tickets for seatbelt offences across the province. Sgt. Darrin Turnbull with the provincial police service says that buckling up should be the first thing you do when you get into your vehicle.
