The Antigonish Farmers Mutual Insurance Company has donated $25,000 to the Oxford & Area Community Centre in Oxford, Nova Scotia. This March 2026 contribution brings the local fundraising effort closer to its final goal for the new $25 million facility.
The new centre replaces the former Lions Club hall, which had to be closed and torn down after a sinkhole damaged the site in 2018. This project is a net-zero building at 177 Lower Main Street and is designed to meet strict green energy standards.
When the building opens in the spring of 2026, it will provide residents with a gymnasium, a community kitchen, and meeting rooms. The space will also host a library branch, childcare services, and a fitness centre for the community.
The Government of Canada and the Province of Nova Scotia each provided $7 million toward the project. The Town of Oxford and the Municipality of Cumberland also contributed about $350,000 each.
The insurance company has supported regional projects since 1910 and has given more than $697,500 to local causes over the years. Organizers have been working to raise the final $1 million for the project through community donations and local events.
