Pet owners in Whitby, Ontario, can now book low-cost spay and neuter surgeries for their dogs and cats at a newly opened clinic. The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society is offering these services to the public for the first time at its veterinary centre located at 1505 Wentworth Street.
The clinic previously only provided medical care for animals waiting for adoption in the shelter. This expansion allows local families to access essential pet surgeries at a reduced price, helping to manage the local animal population and support residents who may struggle with high veterinary costs.
Appointments for the month of March 2026 are currently available for booking. The clinic will open its registration for April appointments starting on April 7, 2026, using a high-volume medical model that has already been successful in cities like Barrie and Sudbury.
Since the organization began these services in 2009, it has performed more than 150,000 surgeries across Ontario. In 2024 alone, the staff completed over 8,000 procedures, which prevented an estimated 480,000 unwanted puppies and kittens from being born.
The Humane Society of Durham Region joined the provincial network in 2022 to improve local animal services. As a charity that does not receive annual government funding, the organization relies on donations from the community to keep the clinic running.
