Residents in Quispamsis, New Brunswick, can now submit their names to run for a seat on the town council in the upcoming election on May 11, 2026. The nomination period officially started on March 23, 2026, and interested candidates have until April 10, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. to hand in their paperwork to the local election office.
The Town of Quispamsis council consists of one mayor and seven councillors who are elected by the whole community. This election will bring a major change in leadership, as Mayor Libby O’Hara announced earlier this year that she will not be seeking another term after 15 years of service in local government.
To qualify for a position, a person must be a Canadian citizen and at least 18 years old on election day. They must also have lived in the town for at least six months before the vote. According to Elections New Brunswick, candidates also need to get signatures from at least 10 local voters to support their application.
Anyone thinking about running can attend an online information session hosted by the Union of Municipalities of New Brunswick on March 26, 2026. This webinar will explain what is required to serve on a council and how the non-partisan election process works.
Nomination forms can be picked up and submitted at the returning office located in the McCluskey Brothers Conference Centre at the qplex. According to the election schedule, advance polls will be open for early voting on May 2 and May 4, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
