The Manitoba government confirmed in its March 24, 2026, budget that the new health centre in Neepawa, Manitoba, is on track to open for patients in early 2027. This $127 million project is now 75 per cent finished and will offer significantly more medical services to the growing community.
According to the Province of Manitoba, the new facility will be about three-and-a-half times larger than the current building, which first opened in 1952. The expansion includes increasing the number of acute care beds from 35 up to 60 and adding a new hemodialysis suite with nine stations.
Residents will also have access to an expanded emergency department, enhanced surgery space, and specialized areas for birthing, palliative care, and chemotherapy. Prairie Mountain Health reports that the building will also house diagnostics and therapy services to help local patients get care closer to home.
The investment comes as Neepawa’s population continues to grow, having increased by more than 23 per cent between 2016 and 2021. To support this growth, the Government of Manitoba is also spending $6.3 million on recruiting more doctors across the province.
This project is part of a larger provincial plan to improve rural healthcare, with similar work happening in Brandon and Portage la Prairie. The budget also includes $4.2 million for a new emergency room at the E.M. Crowe Memorial Hospital in Eriksdale.
