Homeowners and businesses in Grimsby have begun receiving their water and wastewater bills for the most recent two-month period, marking the first time residents are being charged under a newly updated system. These bills, which cover usage from January and February 2026, must be paid by Thursday, April 16, 2026, to avoid any potential penalties.

This billing cycle is the first to use a model approved by the Town of Grimsby Council in August 2025. Under the new approach, charges are calculated based on the size of the water meter at a property and the actual amount of water used. This change simplifies the process by consolidating all water and wastewater costs into one bill, effectively ending the previous practice of including a wastewater levy on property tax bills.

For residential customers with standard meters up to 3/4 inch, the fixed charge is $52.67 for water and $68.86 for wastewater every two months. In addition to these fixed costs, usage-based rates are set at $1.79 per cubic metre for water and $2.30 per cubic metre for wastewater. Residents can use the Let’s Talk Grimsby Portal to learn more about the modernization project, which also included the replacement of roughly 2,100 outdated touchpad meters to facilitate remote data collection and more accurate billing.

The town has also shifted from a system that billed three times per year to a more frequent bi-monthly schedule. This change is intended to help residents monitor their consumption more closely and identify potential leaks sooner. The next billing cycle for Grimsby residents is set for May 28, 2026.
