Residents in Dauphin, Manitoba are being invited to support local healthcare services as Prairie Mountain Health actively recruits new volunteers for the Dauphin Regional Health Centre.
The health authority is seeking community members to assist in a variety of roles at the facility, which is located at 625 3rd St., SW. Available volunteer activities include acting as a patient visitor through the Be a Friend program, assisting with recreation and activities, helping in the gardens, providing musical entertainment, and supporting staff as a resident appointment escort or outing assistant. The health region also offers opportunities for those interested in palliative care volunteer services.
To be eligible, volunteers must be at least 15 years old and willing to commit to the program for a minimum of six months. Shifts typically last up to four hours, once per week, and generally take place on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Interested individuals can contact the volunteer coordinator by emailing [email protected] or calling 204-578-2065.
This recruitment effort comes as the local health centre has undergone significant updates. Recent renovations have brought a new cancer care unit to the site, expanded the endoscopy suite, and increased the number of available inpatient beds. These improvements are part of a broader commitment to enhancing services at the regional acute care centre, which serves a wide area of western Manitoba.
Community involvement has long been a staple of healthcare in the region. The Dauphin Hospital Foundation, which was established in September 1988, continues to support the facility through equipment purchases and staff education funding.
