The Town of Quispamsis is inviting residents to share their feedback on proposed changes to how elected officials are paid. Council is considering an update to the by-law governing member compensation, which would introduce new rules for inflation adjustments and expense management ahead of a final decision on April 7, 2026.
The proposed changes, outlined in Amendment No. 018-10, follow two initial readings held on March 17, 2026. If passed, the amendment would cap annual CPI (Consumer Price Index) adjustments for council pay at 5 percent. It also requires town staff to perform a formal review of compensation levels during the year before any municipal election.
The amendment also introduces stricter guidelines for expenses. All council members would be required to follow the town’s existing travel policy, known as P2025-002. While the proposal sets specific expense allocations, it allows individual members to exceed their personal limit by up to 20 percent, provided they receive written approval from the mayor (or deputy mayor if the mayor is making the request) and the town’s chief administrative officer, and as long as the total budget for reimbursements is not exceeded.

The current council, serving from 2021 to 2026, includes Mayor Libby O’Hara, Deputy Mayor Mary Schryer, and councillors Mike Biggar, Noah Donovan, Kerrie Luck, Kirk Miller, Emil Olsen, and Beth Thompson.
