Public Works crews in Beaumont, Alberta, have begun their annual spring maintenance, clearing municipal parking lots and sidewalks as the snow melts. This work marks the start of the city’s transition from winter maintenance to summer road care, with full street sweeping for public roadways slated to begin on April 15, 2026.
The city’s street sweeping program is designed to remove the sanding material and winter debris that accumulated on streets over the colder months. To ensure the process is effective, crews may make up to three passes through each neighbourhood. Residents are asked to watch for signs posted at the main entrances of subdivisions at least 48 hours before work begins in their area and to park their vehicles elsewhere during those times.
In addition to road cleaning, city staff are currently working to unblock catch basins, culverts, and other drainage assets across Beaumont to manage seasonal runoff. These efforts are part of the broader responsibilities held by the Infrastructure department, which oversees more than $129 million in city-owned assets.
This spring maintenance arrives as the community continues to manage the demands of rapid growth. According to the city, the population has increased by 23 percent over the last five years, surpassing 24,500 residents in 2024. To support this growth while facing challenges like inflation, tariffs on construction materials, and reduced provincial grants, Beaumont City Council approved a 4.79 percent municipal tax increase for the 2026 budget, prioritizing the safety and reliability of the local transportation network.
