Residents looking to help spruce up the downtown area can join upcoming volunteer clean-up sessions in the Owen Sound River District throughout April 2026. Organized by Safe n Sound and the local business board, these events aim to clear debris left behind after the spring thaw.
The clean-up efforts are open to anyone who wants to help out. These are drop-in events, meaning volunteers can show up and assist for as much or as little time as they are able. Organizers will provide all necessary supplies on-site, including gloves, high-visibility vests, wagons, and waste removal tools to ensure the work is done safely.
There are three sessions planned for the community:
- Thursday, April 2, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the East Harbourfront Wall
- Wednesday, April 8, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., starting at City Hall to cover the downtown core
- Sunday, April 12, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., covering the downtown core and the West Harbourfront
These initiatives are supported by the Neighbourhood Response Team, a pilot program launched by Safe n Sound in November 2025. The team regularly works to support the downtown core by responding to calls for cleaning up garbage and debris. Safe n Sound, a nonprofit organization established in 2007, continues to provide resources for individuals facing homelessness or crisis in the Owen Sound and Grey-Bruce region, including through their operations at The Space located at 310 8th Street East.
