The Owen Sound Police Service arrested a 24-year-old local man on April 1, 2026, during an unrelated custody matter, leading to multiple charges involving drugs and weapons. The arrest is part of an ongoing effort by local law enforcement to address public safety concerns in the community.
During the arrest, officers discovered cocaine and methamphetamine, along with drug paraphernalia. Police also seized brass knuckles and a replica air pistol. The estimated street value of the confiscated drugs is $5,300. The individual now faces charges for possession of cocaine and methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
This incident follows a two-day enforcement operation conducted by police on March 25 and March 26, 2026. That operation, which targeted open drug use in the downtown core, resulted in nine arrests and the seizure of crystal methamphetamine and fentanyl. Under the leadership of Chief Craig Ambrose, the police force shifted its strategy in January 2025 to prioritize the direct enforcement of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act in public spaces.
To support these community safety efforts, the Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General provided over $647,000 in grant funding in October 2025. Approximately $230,000 of this amount is dedicated to sustaining a part-time officer program for downtown foot patrols, while $418,000 is used to expand community-oriented policing initiatives. Residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area as these safety initiatives continue.
