Two teenagers from Tillsonburg, aged 13 and 17, were among three people killed in a serious collision in Norwich Township on March 31, 2026. The crash, which involved an SUV and a transport truck, occurred at the intersection of Highway 59 and Quaker Street at approximately 3 p.m.
The driver of the SUV, a 39-year-old from Cambridge, also died in the incident. Two other occupants of the vehicle remain in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after being transported by Ornge air ambulance and land ambulance. The driver of the transport truck was not injured.
The intersection where the collision took place is controlled by stop signs on Quaker Street, while Highway 59 serves as a through road. Local residents Betty and Dave Kerr, who live at the intersection, had been advocating for 20 years to have the speed limit reduced from 80 km/h to 60 km/h due to frequent crashes in the area. While the county approved the speed reduction in February 2026, the new signs had not been installed at the time of the crash. Following the tragedy, the county has announced that speed limit signs and flashing feedback signs will be installed within the next three weeks.
The Ontario Provincial Police are currently investigating the circumstances of the collision. Witnesses have described the impact of the crash, with one bystander reporting that the SUV appeared to flip through the air after the collision with the transport truck. Police are asking anyone who may have dashcam or security footage from the area at the time of the crash to contact them at 1-888-310-1122 or to reach out to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
