The Kennebecasis Regional Police Force is celebrating 75 years of service to the communities of Quispamsis and Rothesay in 2026. The police force is inviting local residents to join in marking this milestone anniversary as it reflects on seven decades of growth and public safety in New Brunswick.
The organization began as the Rothesay Police Department on April 1, 1951. At that time, Harry Darcus Miller was appointed as the first full-time officer for the town with a daily salary of $5.00. Over the years, the force expanded its reach and underwent several name changes, becoming the Rothesay Regional Police Force in 1984 before adopting its current name on March 31, 2014.
Today, the force has grown significantly from its single-officer beginnings. It now serves a combined population of approximately 34,000 residents. The department operates out of its headquarters at 126 Millennium Drive in Quispamsis.
The police service remains under the guidance of the Kennebecasis Regional Joint Board of Police Commissioners, which features elected representatives from both towns alongside a provincial representative. Beyond standard law enforcement, the organization has maintained a long-standing commitment to local social support through the Community Advancement Program. Founded in 1990 by retired officers, this nonprofit organization continues to assist with youth programs, seniors’ services, and aid for vulnerable families.
