Residents in Neepawa, Manitoba, who are navigating a cancer diagnosis or caring for a loved one, have an opportunity to participate in a support retreat on April 25, 2026. The one-day event is being hosted by Central Plains Cancer Services at ArtsForward, located at 293 Mountain Avenue.
The retreat is designed to provide support sessions, relaxation activities, and various resources for patients and caregivers. This event is part of a larger effort by the non-profit organization to expand its wellness programming by holding smaller, localized retreats throughout the more than 70 rural communities they serve across Manitoba.
According to Sharilyn Knox, executive director of Central Plains Cancer Services, 2026 is a development year focused on bringing these programs closer to home for those in the region. The organization has previously found success with its flagship wellness retreat, a program that has featured sessions on art, mindfulness, movement, and yoga. Last year, that retreat drew attendees from across Manitoba and Saskatchewan, with participants describing the experience as a significant support in their lives.
Neepawa, which has seen its population grow significantly in recent years, already hosts a Community Cancer Program through Prairie Mountain Health at 500 Hospital Street. This facility provides outpatient chemotherapy and follow-up care for local patients. The addition of the regional retreat aims to further support the quality of life for families in the area.
