The Town of Antigonish will conduct sewer lining maintenance on Highland Drive and Greening Drive on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. Residents in the area should prepare for temporary road disruptions as crews work on the underground infrastructure.
To help manage the flow of vehicles, traffic control measures will be in place starting after school drop-off hours. To avoid potential delays during afternoon school pickup, officials advise drivers to use Appleseed Drive as an alternate route to access local schools.
This maintenance work utilizes a method known as pipe lining, which repairs existing sewer lines by inserting a resin-saturated liner inside the pipe. This approach is often used because it requires less digging and causes less disruption to neighbourhoods compared to traditional pipe replacement. While the specific contractor for this project was not named in the recent notice, Eastern Trenchless Ltd. has previously performed similar lining work for the town.
The maintenance is part of a broader effort to update aging infrastructure throughout Antigonish. Earlier this year, the federal and provincial governments, along with the Town of Antigonish, announced a combined investment through the Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund to support water and wastewater system improvements. Mayor Sean Cameron has stated that these investments are essential to help the town grow responsibly while ensuring the necessary infrastructure is in place to support new housing.
