Traffic flow has been restored on Highway 28 at Range Road 154 near Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, following an earlier collision on April 4, 2026. While the roadway is once again open in both directions, motorists are still being advised to use caution when travelling through the area.
According to Average Joe’s Road Reports, icy patches remain at some intersections in the region. These conditions are consistent with typical April weather patterns in north-central Alberta, and drivers are encouraged to remain alert for changing road surfaces.
This stretch of road, which serves as a major commuter and commercial route through Sturgeon County, is part of a heavily used corridor connecting Edmonton to northern communities. Alberta Transportation has long-term plans to upgrade this route to divided highways, with a 2011 study identifying the need for new interchanges at Highway 643 in Gibbons and Township Road 554 to improve safety and capacity.
