The Waterloo Wolves U18 AAA hockey team secured a spot in the national championship after winning the Ontario Hockey Federation Central Region title on April 5, 2026. The team claimed the victory in a hard-fought overtime final against the North Shore Whitecaps, held at the Angus Glen Community Centre in Markham, Ontario.
The championship game remained tense until the final moments of overtime, when 17-year-old forward Zack Forwell of Elmira scored the game-winning goal with just seven seconds remaining on the clock. Forwell’s decisive play capped off a successful week for the team, which competed against five other squads including the Toronto Titans, Ottawa Myers Automotive, North Bay Trappers, and the tournament host, the Markham Waxers.
This regional win marks a significant achievement for the Waterloo program, which saw strong performance throughout the 2025-2026 season. Under the leadership of head coach Kyle Morrison, the Wolves finished first in the regular season standings with a record of 30 wins, three losses, and two overtime losses.
The Ontario Hockey Federation and Hockey Canada oversee these championship events, which highlight the top minor hockey talent across the country.
