Quispamsis town council is set to finalize changes to how elected officials are compensated during their meeting tonight, April 7, 2026. The council will hold a third and final vote on the proposed update starting at 6 p.m. at the Town Hall on 12 Landing Court.
The update to the town’s rules, known as By-law Amendment No. 018-10, adds four specific requirements for managing how officials are paid. Under the new rules, town staff must review compensation amounts in the year leading up to a municipal election. The amendment also mandates that council members follow a specific travel policy and limits annual inflation-related salary adjustments to 5%. Additionally, the change allows for a 20% overage in expense allocations, provided the mayor and the town’s top administrator give prior written approval.
This vote comes just weeks before the municipal election on May 11, 2026, when all eight seats on the council will be up for election. Current Mayor Libby O’Hara, who has served since 2021, has already announced she will not run for another term. The incoming council elected in May will operate under these updated procedural rules.
