A 32-year-old Guelph man faces drug trafficking charges following an undercover investigation conducted by the Guelph Police Service. The arrest took place on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, after police observed two people in a vehicle near Eastview Road and Summit Ridge Drive.
The investigation began in late February when an undercover officer purchased a quantity of cocaine. Following the arrest on Wednesday night, the man was held for a bail hearing that took place on Thursday, April 2, 2026. He is now charged with trafficking cocaine and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Cocaine is classified as a Schedule I substance under the federal Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Under this law, individuals found guilty of trafficking Schedule I substances can face a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
This arrest is part of a broader, ongoing effort by the Guelph Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit to address drug-related crime in the community. The unit has been involved in several significant investigations recently, including a drug bust involving $120,000 worth of drugs in August 2025 and multiple cocaine-related seizures in March 2026.
National data provided by Statistics Canada highlights that cocaine remains one of the most common drugs involved in police-reported drug offences across the country. In 2024, there were 14,504 police-reported incidents involving cocaine, representing an 8 percent increase from the previous year.
