Residents of Sandy Bay can look forward to milder conditions heading into the weekend as the heavy snow from earlier this week begins to clear out. After a late-season storm dumped between 15 and 20 centimetres of snow on the area starting Tuesday, April 7, 2026, the weather is shifting toward a warming trend.
The recent storm, identified by Environment Canada as a fast-moving low-pressure system known as an Alberta clipper, caused significant disruptions across the region. Hazardous travel conditions and poor visibility led to school closures throughout Manitoba on Wednesday, April 8. While those conditions resulted in warnings earlier in the week, there are currently no weather alerts in effect for Sandy Bay.
According to The Weather Network, the clouds are expected to clear Thursday afternoon. While Thursday morning brought cold wind chill values near -17 degrees Celsius, these are expected to moderate as winds ease.
Temperatures will begin to climb from a high of 2 degrees Celsius on Thursday to approximately 11 degrees Celsius by Saturday. This warming trend is expected to continue into next week, with daytime highs reaching near 12 degrees Celsius by Wednesday, April 15, 2026.
