The Town of Watson Lake is inviting local individuals, groups, and non-profit organizations to apply for the latest round of the Community Lottery Fund, with a submission deadline of May 5, 2026.
This program is part of the Yukon Lottery Commission initiative that distributes proceeds from lottery ticket sales to support arts, sport, and recreation programs across the territory. Following a change in how funding is distributed that took effect April 1, 2026, Watson Lake now qualifies for an allocation of $32,889, reflecting increases based on the Consumer Price Index and regional healthcare statistics.
Applications are reviewed by the Watson Lake Recreation Advisory Committee. The committee ensures that all proposals meet the required guidelines before making recommendations to Mayor Lauren Hanchar and the Town Council for final approval.
Those interested in applying can find forms and detailed guidelines at the Town Office or through the official website at watsonlake.ca. For any questions regarding the application process, residents can contact the Town Office at 867-536-8000 or send an email to [email protected].
Past local recipients have included a variety of community groups, such as the Watson Lake Minor Hockey program, the Youth Soccer Club, the Signpost Seniors Association, and the Queer Yukon Society. Once funding is approved, applicants must submit receipts within three months to receive their funds. If the money is not spent within that timeframe, it may be revoked unless an extension is requested in writing with a clear justification.
