Aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners in Grey County have until April 19, 2026, to apply for the latest session of the Starter Company Plus program. Delivered by the Business Enterprise Centre in Owen Sound, the provincially funded initiative helps participants launch or expand their businesses through training and potential financial support.
The program, which is supported by the Province of Ontario, begins in May. Selected participants will take part in hands-on business training and receive mentorship from experienced local business leaders. After completing the training and presenting a business plan to a review committee, participants may be selected to receive a grant of up to $5,000.
To be eligible, applicants must be at least 18 years old, reside in Ontario, and be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. The program is designed for those who are not attending school full-time. Additionally, applicants must be able to provide a contribution—in cash or in kind—equal to at least 25 per cent of the grant amount they are seeking.
The Business Enterprise Centre, located at the Sydenham Campus at 1130 8th Street East in Owen Sound, has a track record of supporting successful local ventures. One such success story is Cafe Gilou, which grew from a farmers’ market stand into a permanent cafe in Owen Sound after participating in the program.
