Residents in The Pas and surrounding areas are being advised to prepare for difficult travel and winter conditions as a weather system moves through northern Manitoba. Environment Canada has issued a yellow-level alert for the region, warning of heavy snow expected to continue through Wednesday, April 15, 2026.
The storm is expected to bring between 15 and 20 centimetres of snow to The Pas, Flin Flon, Norway House, and Island Lake. Snow began falling overnight and is forecast to persist throughout Wednesday, with some areas facing a risk of freezing rain.
Travel conditions are expected to be hazardous due to the heavy snowfall and strong northeast winds of 30 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 50 km/h. Residents should also be aware of dropping temperatures, as wind chill values are forecast to hit minus 17 during the day and drop to minus 21 overnight.
As of 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday, conditions at The Pas Airport were recorded at minus 6.2 degrees Celsius with moderate winds. While the current weather is difficult, the Weather Network and Environment Canada report that the system is expected to move out of the area by Wednesday night, with conditions showing significant improvement by Sunday when temperatures are expected to reach a high of 6 degrees Celsius.
