Residents in parts of Antigonish should prepare for a scheduled power outage early Friday morning, April 17, 2026. The Town of Antigonish Electric Utility will cut power to specific areas between 12:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. to allow crews to move power lines to new poles installed as part of the ongoing Bay Street Capital Project.
The work is part of the ongoing Bay Street Capital Project, which is currently focused on the stretch between Haley Road and Adam Street. Workers are moving power poles out of the sidewalk and onto a nearby grass boulevard to improve accessibility for pedestrians and people using mobility devices.
The outage will affect Bay Street, the Sisters of St. Martha’s facility, and Mount Cameron Circle, specifically impacting civic addresses 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 15, 17, 23, 25, 26, 27, 30, and 35. The town has confirmed that Parkland Antigonish and St. Martha’s Regional Hospital will not be affected by the work.
No traffic control measures will be required during this operation. The broader street project, which began in the fall of 2025, aims to replace water and sewer infrastructure that is over 100 years old, while also realigning the street and improving flood protection.
