Police in Guelph were called to a plaza near Gordon Street and Wellington Street East on the evening of April 15, 2026, following reports of a disturbance involving approximately 12 youths.
According to the Guelph Police Service, what began as a verbal argument among the group escalated into a physical confrontation. During the incident, a 22-year-old man fell and sustained a knee injury. He was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Officers arrested a 15-year-old girl at the scene. Police determined that the youth was in breach of several court release orders because she was associating with two males who were also involved in the disturbance. She has been charged with two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking and two counts of breaching a probation order. The youth was held in custody for a bail hearing on April 17, 2026.
This incident comes as the community monitors local crime trends. While Guelph ranked as the sixth safest census metropolitan area in Canada in 2024, data from Statistics Canada indicates the city’s violent crime severity index reached a record high of 77.56. Despite these figures, the city’s youth criminal justice offence rate remains significantly lower than the national average.
The investigation into the disturbance remains ongoing.
