The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is hosting a career fair in Chestermere on April 29, 2026, to encourage local residents to consider a career in policing. The event will take place from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Chestermere Regional Community Association, located at 201 W Chestermere Drive.
The recruitment drive comes at a time when the force is actively seeking to fill significant staffing gaps. As of September 2025, the national organization required at least 3,400 additional front-line officers to meet its operational needs. In Alberta, the vacancy rate for front-line positions currently sits at 8.6 percent, which exceeds the force’s critical threshold of 7 percent.
The Auditor General of Canada recently highlighted challenges within the hiring process. Reports show that the average time to process an application has reached 330 days, which is above the force’s own service standard of 224 days. Additionally, during the period from April 2023 to September 2025, only 6 percent of submitted applications resulted in an offer to be trained as an officer.
Chestermere was selected for this outreach effort as the city continues to see growth. As of 2025, the municipality reached a population of 31,671 residents.
