The Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority is celebrating 368 volunteers across the region during National Volunteer Week, which runs from April 19 to April 25, 2026. This year, the organization is highlighting the contributions of community members under the theme of “Ignite Volunteerism” to recognize the vital role volunteers play in local health facilities.
In Gimli, the impact of local dedication is clearly visible through the work of the Gimli District Health Auxiliary. This organization has been active for over 55 years, supporting the local community and the Gimli Community Health Centre. With a current team of more than 40 members, the auxiliary has contributed over $260,000 to local health programs and facilities since 2008.
The health authority relies on volunteers to support a wide range of services, including those at the 10 hospitals and 16 personal care homes it manages throughout the region. While some longtime volunteers have recently returned to their roles, such as those bringing music programs back to hospitals, officials note that volunteer participation has faced challenges since the pandemic.
To help address these needs, regional recreation manager Lori Martin is actively inviting new volunteers to join the healthcare team. Residents interested in offering their time to support local health programs are encouraged to contact the regional recreation department for more information on available opportunities.
