The Indigenous Sports Circle Northwest Territories is looking for volunteers to serve as officials for the 2026 Indigenous Summer Games, which will take place in Yellowknife from June 19 to June 21, 2026. The event will be hosted at École Sir John Franklin High School and marks the third edition of the summer competition, following previous games held in 2022 and 2024.
This opportunity comes as residents in Tuktoyaktuk continue to show strong engagement in territorial sports and culture. Several local athletes recently represented the Northwest Territories at the 2026 Arctic Winter Games, including Alaina Noksana, Ross Felix, Trent Wolki, Zion Adam, Paden Elias, and Leon Gruben-Mangelana. Additionally, Tuktoyaktuk residents Sarah and Davy Krengnektak were recognized for their contributions to local heritage as recipients of the 2025 Indigenous Sports Circle Northwest Territories Language and Culture Award.
The upcoming games will feature a variety of traditional Northern Games and Dene Games. Organizers are also introducing a new trial event for the first time: canoe races. Those interested in officiating the event have until May 15, 2026, to submit their applications to the organization.
Registration for athletes is now open. Early bird pricing is set at $20 until June 5, 2026, after which the fee will increase to $40 for regular registration. For more information on volunteering as an official or registering for the games, individuals can contact the event manager at the Indigenous Sports Circle Northwest Territories.
