The City of Thompson is seeking local contractors to help spruce up the community through the Beautify Thompson Initiative. Organizations interested in handling summer maintenance tasks have until April 30, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. to submit their proposals.
The successful bidder will be responsible for identifying and removing or covering up graffiti throughout the city. Additionally, the role involves maintaining city flowers during the peak summer months of June, July, and August 2026. This seasonal work is intended to help enhance the city’s appearance as it serves as a regional hub for approximately 60,000 to 65,000 people across northern Manitoba.
This initiative arrives as Thompson continues to undergo a major period of growth and infrastructure development. The city has recently seen the completion of a new airport, and it is currently working through a multi-year, $87 million road and sewer renewal project. Residents can also look forward to the opening of a $42 million aquatic center in July 2026.
Mayor Colleen Smook, who has been a resident of the community for over 53 years, noted that the current level of construction and development is unprecedented in her time in the city. Following a year that saw Thompson host the 2026 Manitoba Winter Games, the city is focused on keeping public spaces well-maintained for both residents and visitors.
Proposals for the beautification contract must be submitted to the City of Thompson Purchasing Department, located at 226 Mystery Lake Road, Thompson, MB, R8N 1S6. Bids received after the April 30 deadline will not be accepted.
