The Town of Hanover celebrated the contributions of local residents during a special gathering held ahead of National Volunteer Week, which runs from April 19 to April 25, 2026.
On Friday, April 17, approximately 50 volunteers and community partners from more than 20 local groups met at The Bodega Cafe & Pantry. The venue is a youth social enterprise operated by Elephant Thoughts, a registered Canadian charity that has provided educational and workforce development opportunities since 2002.
The event highlighted the essential role volunteers play in maintaining recreational, social, and cultural programs throughout Hanover and the surrounding area. During the gathering, representatives from eight organizations spoke about their missions and how community support helps them deliver vital services to residents.
This year’s celebrations align with the national theme of “Ignite Volunteerism,” a movement led by Volunteer Canada. The initiative aims to elevate the profile of civic participation and rebuild volunteer infrastructure across the country. Additionally, 2026 has been designated as International Volunteer Year, offering a unique opportunity for communities to recognize the long-term impact of volunteer service.
The Town of Hanover is currently led by a council consisting of Mayor Sue Paterson, Deputy Mayor Warren Dickert, and five councillors, who are serving a term that concludes in November 2026.
