The girls rugby team at Owen Sound District Secondary School is preparing for a new international adventure after receiving official approval to travel to Portugal and Spain in 2027.
The Bluewater District School Board formally approved the trip during its April 21, 2026 meeting. The tour is set to take place from March 11-21, 2027, coinciding with the Ontario spring break. This approval is contingent on the trip aligning with all official travel advisories at the time of departure. As of March 13, 2026, the Canadian government lists the travel advisory for Portugal at the lowest risk level, advising residents to take normal security precautions.
This upcoming tour continues a tradition of international travel for the school’s rugby program, known as the Wolves. Under the guidance of head coach Rob Lee, the team previously completed tours to Scotland in 2019 and to England and Wales in 2024. Coach Lee first began considering a 2027 European excursion as early as March 2024.
The Wolves enter this planning phase as a dominant force in local athletics, having secured six consecutive regional championships. The team also brings provincial experience to the field, having earned a bronze medal at the provincial championship held by the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations in 2024.
