The Northern Lights Centre in Watson Lake, Yukon, will reopen for the 2026 summer season on May 1. The facility will be open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. through September 30.
Located on the Alaska Highway at the junction of the Robert Campbell Highway, the centre serves as a gateway for travelers entering the territory. It also houses the Visitor Information Centre, which is managed by the Yukon Government. This location is situated within the traditional territory of the Liard River First Nation and the Kaska Dena people.
Since opening in 1996, the facility has functioned as the only visitor centre in the Yukon dedicated to the science and folklore of the aurora borealis. Inside, guests will find a digital theatre that seats 100 people and features a specialized projection system that displays 3 million pixels. The theatre offers hourly double-feature presentations, including a show about the aurora borealis filmed entirely in the Yukon and an animated space exploration program.
The centre acts as a key destination for the community of Watson Lake, which is projected to have approximately 1,550 residents this year.
