The ODD Gallery at Dënäkär Zho in Dawson City is hosting a new immersive exhibition by Yukon artist Cole Pauls from May 7 to July 25, 2026. The show, titled Lłēge zedle s̱on nes̱it’īn | We See Stars Only At Night, transforms the artist’s fourth graphic novel into a gallery installation featuring 40 original two-page spreads.
Pauls, a Champagne and Aishihik Citizen from Haines Junction, is a comic artist, illustrator, and printmaker whose work has received national recognition. His previous projects include the graphic novels Dakwäkãda Warriors, which won the 2020 Indigenous Voices Award for Best Work in an Indigenous Language, and Kwändür, which earned the 2023 Roderick Haig-Brown Regional Prize from the BC and Yukon Book Prizes.
The new exhibition explores Tahltan culture, symbols, and storytelling through a surrealist visual narrative. Pauls created the work intuitively without a predetermined script, allowing the story to unfold through improvisation. The material in the exhibition was originally developed for a 2023 group show before being expanded into a full-length book published by Conundrum Press.
The Klondike Institute of Art & Culture will hold an opening reception and artist talk for the exhibition on May 7 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the gallery, which is located on the territory of the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in.
