Residents of Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, should prepare for an early-season heat wave expected to bring temperatures well above normal levels this coming weekend through Thursday, May 7, 2026. While no official weather alerts are currently in place, Environment Canada forecasts that temperatures will climb significantly, with inland areas reaching up to 29°C by Monday, May 4. This is approximately 15°C higher than the usual maximum temperature of 14°C for this time of year.
According to The Weather Network, this period of intense heat is caused by a system known as a Rex block. This occurs when a high-pressure system becomes stalled over the region, locking in warmer air for several days. The heat is expected to persist across the province throughout the week.
As the community manages the rising temperatures, Metro Vancouver has already implemented Stage 2 water restrictions as of May 1, 2026. Due to concerns regarding low snowpack and drought, a ban on all lawn watering is now in effect across the region.
To stay safe during this warm spell, the BC government recommends that residents stay hydrated, avoid spending long periods in the sun during the hottest part of the afternoon, and check on vulnerable neighbours who may be more sensitive to the heat. While the city is currently experiencing this heat event during the spring freshet season, the City of Pitt Meadows notes that roughly 85 percent of the municipality is located within a floodplain, making the area naturally susceptible to water-related risks during these months.
