Red Deer County has announced via its Alertable notification system that a portion of Range Road 12, located north of Highway 11A, will be closed to traffic for three weeks starting May 19, 2026. The road is expected to remain inaccessible until June 10, 2026, requiring drivers in the area to find alternate routes.

This work takes place during the region’s active construction season. The county imposes spring road bans to protect roads during thaw; in 2026, bans came into effect on March 19. The project coincides with other ongoing infrastructure efforts, including the Sylvan Lake Northeast Gateway Water Supply Main, which is currently under construction along Township Road 391 and Range Road 12.
The county has dedicated significant funding toward infrastructure this year, including a $7.1 million paving program and a $5.1 million regravelling program. These projects are part of a broader commitment by the local government to address road maintenance and rehabilitation, which requires an estimated investment of $3 to $5 million annually to maintain the safety and integrity of the local road network.
