The Rotary Club of Red Deer Sunrise is inviting residents to help grow the city’s urban forest by participating in a Community Tree Planting Day at McKenzie Trails Recreation Area on June 6, 2026. The volunteer event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and offers locals an opportunity to improve the trails in the Waskasoo Park system.
This initiative continues the local club’s involvement in environmental work. The group has previously participated in the Green Deer program, an environmental effort administered by the Waskasoo Environmental Education Society that encourages residents to maintain city green spaces.
The upcoming planting day aligns with a broader focus on environmental sustainability within the organization. Since 2021, Rotary International has made supporting the environment a key area of focus for its global clubs. Red Deer is also participating in the national Trees for Life initiative, which selected the community as one of 40 across Canada for future tree-planting efforts.
The Rotary Club of Red Deer Sunrise was chartered in 1999 and has since raised over $1 million for local and international projects. The club is currently led by President Judy-Ann Wybenga, President Elect Dave Oxley, Treasurer Ian Warwick, and Secretary Lynn Stegman.
