Chestermere City Council has taken a step toward expanding local transit options by endorsing a new hybrid service model. The plan, which aims to combine fixed routes with on-demand service, could change how residents travel within the city.
During an April 14, 2026, meeting, the Chestermere City Council officially selected the hybrid model as the preferred approach for future transit operations. To move this project forward, the city administration has been tasked with exploring how to pay for the system and identifying ways to manage costs. These financial details are expected to be presented to council by the end of July 2026.
In addition to developing a local system, the city is looking into expanding its current transit relationship with the City of Calgary. This exploration includes the potential for a new bus route, known as Route 106, and the possibility of integrating on-demand services into the existing partnership. This work builds on the current Chestermere Transit Link, which has provided daily commuter service as an extension of the Calgary transit network since August 30, 2021.
To ensure the new service meets local needs, the city is working with experts from EXP Services and Dillon Consulting. These firms are currently conducting a study to review how well existing options are working and to identify exactly where and when residents need transit access. The results of this study and the financial reports will help shape the final path for transit service in the community.
