The University College of the North is hosting a free, hands-on technology event for local students in Thompson on May 23, 2026, at its Thompson campus. The Digital Discovery Day is designed to help children in Grades 2 through 12 explore new technology and learn about future career opportunities in Manitoba.
This event marks the first meeting of the new, volunteer-led Youth Tech Club, which will continue to hold sessions once a month. The program aims to support young learners in Northern Manitoba, where access to high-speed internet and digital resources can be limited.
The day will be split into two sessions to accommodate different age groups. Students in Grades 2 to 6 are invited to attend from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., while students in Grades 7 to 12 will meet from 12 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Lunch will be provided for all participants. The campus notes that children aged 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Because space is limited, the college is currently managing registration through a waitlist. Families interested in participating can sign up through the event page to secure a spot as they become available.
The Thompson campus is located on the traditional territory of the Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation and the homeland of the Métis people. As a regional education hub, the college continues to look for ways to expand programming for local students and provide access to emerging technologies.
