The City of Owen Sound began its annual road resurfacing program on May 11, 2026, with plans to improve 14 road segments across the city by June 6, 2026.
The project focuses on renewing residential streets on both the east and west sides of the city. Crews will perform several types of work, including adjusting underground infrastructure, milling existing pavement, installing new hot mix asphalt, improving drainage, and applying fresh pavement markings.
The city selects which roads to upgrade based on a Pavement Condition Index. This system helps officials prioritize repairs by looking at the age of the pavement and the severity of any damage.
Residents should expect temporary traffic disruptions throughout the project. The city is also asking people who live on affected streets to avoid parking on the road during construction so that crews have enough space to work efficiently.
This work is part of the city’s Vision 2050 Strategic Plan, which prioritizes well-maintained infrastructure. Depending on the remaining budget and other operational needs, the city may add more roads to this year’s list.
