Dauphin Regional Comprehensive Secondary School rugby teams have dominated the Westman High School Rugby league in early May 2026, securing decisive wins against regional rivals. Both the girls and boys teams have opened the season with strong performances on the pitch, continuing a tradition of excellence for the school athletics program.
The girls team, which is currently pursuing a fourth consecutive provincial championship title, recently defeated the Swan Valley Tigers 110-5 and the Crocus Plains Plainsmen 80-0. In the victory over Swan Valley, Desiree Lareive led the scoring with five tries, while Kiersten Vandekerckhove, Felicity Sahulka, and Halie Garlinski each added three tries. The team also secured a 104-0 win against the Vincent Massey Vikings on May 7, 2026.
Coach Shawn Sarkonak emphasizes that the current success is a result of collective team effort rather than individual talent. He noted that the priority is getting all players involved, rather than focusing on the point totals of any one athlete. The boys team has also seen early success, recording a 53-0 win over the Crocus Plains Plainsmen to start their campaign.
The Dauphin Clippers continue their season this week with further competition in Brandon. The league, which organizes varsity 15s rugby across Western Manitoba, remains a primary focus for the athletes as they look to build on their early-season momentum.
