The Town of Watson Lake Parks and Recreation Department has announced its summer program offerings, with seasonal facilities now opening for the community. Residents can access updated information on local sports, pool hours, and facility bookings through the town’s official recreation website or by following the Watson Lake Recreation Centre Facebook group or the Watson Lake Community Page.
The Northern Lights Centre is currently open for the 2026 season, welcoming visitors daily from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. until September 30. Additionally, the Dennis Ball Memorial Pool is preparing for its summer season, which runs from May through August, featuring a variety of options including lane swimming, family swims, and swimming lessons.
Year-round recreation continues at the Morgan Chaddock Recreation Centre, located at 912 Lakeview Ave. The facility is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Saturday through Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The centre provides residents with access to a weight room, squash court, five-pin bowling alley, curling sheets, and a hockey arena. Facility reservations and equipment rentals can be managed through the Univerus Rec Online Booking System.
The town also maintains Lucky Lake, which features a sandy beach and the only outdoor water slide north of the 60th parallel. The site is a focal point for the community during the July 1 long weekend, when it hosts Canada Day celebrations including a softball tournament and various family games.
While summer activities are underway, the town’s winter infrastructure remains a point of local pride. Mt. Maichen Ski Hill, which received a grant from Yukon Lotteries in 2025 to support the rebuilding of its T-bar lift, was recently named Canada’s top hidden gem ski resort for 2026 by Jackpot City Casino. The hill offers nine groomed alpine runs for the winter season.
Residents looking for further information on community event rentals, such as the Community Hall or Wye Lake Cabin, or details regarding the Mayor and Council’s recreation priorities, are encouraged to check the municipal website for the most current details.
