Young hockey players in Watson Lake have a new opportunity to represent the territory on a national stage. Hockey Yukon has announced a preparation and identification camp taking place in Whitehorse from July 24 to August 7, 2026, to select athletes for the 2027 Canada Winter Games in Quebec City.
The camp is open to young athletes from across the territory, including those involved with the Watson Lake Minor Hockey Association. Participants will have the chance to train and be evaluated for a spot on Team Yukon as they look toward the national competition.
The selection process is divided into two phases. The first phase, running from July 24 to July 30, 2026, is an open tryout for all eligible athletes. Following this, a select group of top players will move into the second phase, which runs from July 31 to August 7, 2026, for further evaluation.
Eligibility requirements are based on age as of December 31, 2026. Male athletes must be under 16, while female athletes must be under 18. Additionally, under the Canada Games Council small jurisdiction strategy, a limited number of older athletes may also be considered for selection.
