Residents of the Musselman’s Lake community in Whitchurch-Stouffville, Ontario, are invited to share their feedback on potential road improvements at an upcoming public meeting. The Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville and York Region will host the third open house for the Musselman’s Lake Community – Ninth Line Visioning project on Thursday, June 18, 2026.
The session will take place from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Ballantrae Community Centre, located at 5592 Aurora Road. Attendees will have the opportunity to review feedback gathered from the community, examine study findings, and discuss potential measures currently being considered for the area.
The study focuses on Ninth Line, a regional road where residents have long expressed concerns regarding traffic flow, road safety, and a lack of space for pedestrians and cyclists. The current road is approximately 7.2 metres wide, which leaves little room for added safety features without significant changes to property access or nearby land. Potential solutions under review include converting a section of the road to one-way traffic to create room for walking and cycling paths, or building a new 0.6-kilometre collector road between Lakeshore Road and Aurora Road.
While the study aims to improve the road for all travellers, the project has faced debate regarding funding. In May 2025, the local town council voted 5-2 to reject contributing municipal funds to the study, citing that York Region should cover the full cost for improvements to a regional road. The project, which was initially discussed in 2018 before being paused during the pandemic, is now moving forward to finalize plans.
