The Owen Sound Attack has officially transitioned to new ownership, marking a historic shift for the local junior hockey team. On May 14, 2026, the Ontario Hockey League franchise announced it had been sold to Ecological Dynamics Sports Partners, a private equity-backed group. This deal, which follows approvals from the Ontario Hockey League Board of Governors and the Owen Sound City Council, marks the first time a private equity firm has owned a team in the Canadian Hockey League.
The new ownership group is led by 28-year-old former hockey player Tyler Nother and Donald McClure, the managing director of Cogent Forest Products. Nother, who previously played in the league for London and Windsor, has been named the team president and governor. The investment group also includes a billion-dollar hedge fund founder. While the official price remains undisclosed, reports indicate the sale is rumored to exceed $20 million.
Despite the change in ownership, the team is set to remain in Owen Sound. Following a lease assignment agreement for the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre, city officials have confirmed there is no risk of the team relocating. The previous ownership group, known as the Super Six—which included Dr. Bob Severs and the MacDermid brothers—will remain involved with the franchise in advisory and community roles. This group originally purchased the team in 2000 to keep the franchise from moving to Cornwall.
The transition arrives as the team looks to revitalize its performance. The franchise has faced recent challenges, having been swept in the first round for four consecutive seasons and not having reached the second round since 2018. Additionally, average attendance at home games has dipped to just over 2,700 since the 2022-23 season. Fans and community members are now looking toward this new chapter with hopes that the influx of capital and fresh leadership will help the team compete with larger-market clubs.
